Niger Delta will Continue to Push for Increased Derivation, Says Uduaghan

Niger Delta will Continue to Push for Increased Derivation, Says Uduaghan
15 Sep 2014

Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, at the weekend declared that the people of the Niger Delta would remain undaunted in their quest for increased derivation from the Federation Account.

Uduaghan observed that the people of the region despite the stalemate on increased derivation at the just concluded National Conference, would continue to push for more funds.

The governor made the remarks at the weekend while receiving the Minister of Niger Delta, Dr. Steve Oru, who came on a thank-you visit to the governor.
He was accompanied by political leaders of Urhobo extraction, including the Deputy Governor, Prof. Amos Utuama (SAN).

Uduaghan explained that the agitation of the Niger Delta region was not borne out of insensitivity and greed but because of the huge fund required to remedy the devastation and pollution to the environment occasioned by the activities of oil exploitation and exploration.

The governor appealed for understanding from all Nigerians in these developmental challenges of the Niger Delta region which the current 13 per cent derivation could not adequately address.

“Let me appeal to our brothers outside the Niger Delta that what we have presently is not near enough what is required to address the challenges of development we have in the region,” he said.

Uduaghan noted that although the 50 per cent the delegates to the conference were demanding was not achieved, “we shall not give up asking for more for this region.”

He appealed to politicians as well as political office holders in the state to eschew the attitude of grumbling but seek the interest of the state above personal interest.

“There are a lot of us who are always grumbling, sometimes we need to draw a line and first of all think of the system, what is in the interest of the state before our personal interest.

“There are people who will say if I don’t get it, then I must destroy it. We are even seeing them on the field again for 2015, lots of them are in the race now for 2015. So if God say’s it is not you, don’t destroy it, try

to see how you can help to build,” the governor advised.
Uduaghan who commended the delegation for coming to appreciate him for his contribution and support towards the appointment of the minister, said: “Yes I played my part, but I believe that this appointment was given to Oru by God and God should take the credit.

“God used the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, to listen to the cry of the Urhobo people, to listen to the cry of Delta people and to listen to the cry of those who believe in loyalty, steadfastness and those who believe in remaining where they should be even if it has not happened. And that is why we were able to get this appointment,” he said.

The state Deputy Governor, Utuama, who led the delegation on behalf of Oru and the Urhobo nation, thanked the governor for his numerous contributions and support for the Urhobo people, noting that his detribalised disposition has enabled him to pilot the affairs of the state in the right direction.
Oru while showing his appreciation to the state governor, promised that he would contribute his quota to the development of the region and the benefit of the Niger Delta.

Jonathan Presents N.5b to Delta Govt, as Uduaghan Wins MSME Award

Jonathan Presents N.5b to Delta Govt, as Uduaghan Wins MSME Award
Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan (R) receing an award frpm President Goodluck Jonathan during the 8TH-ANNUAL-MICRO-SMALL-MEDIUM-FINANCE-CONFERENCE-AND-ENTREPRENEURSHIP-AWARDS-IN-ABUJA
LAGOS AUGUST 20TH (URHOBOTODAY)-President Goodluck Jonathan has presented N500m cheque to Delta State Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan Delta State share of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME).
Uduaghan also won an award at the ceremony for the outstanding success Delta State has recorded under him in the MSME scheme.
While making the presentation on Tuesday in Abuja at the launch disbursement of the Central Bank of Nigeria’s N220 billion funds for the development of micro, small and medium enterprises in the country, Jonathan said the Federal Government would establish a wholesale Development Finance Institution to provide long-term funds for industrial development.
The fund’s disbursement was the highpoint of the CBN’s 8th Annual MSME Finance Conference and Entrepreneurship Awards with the theme: “MSME Financing in Nigeria: Past, Present and Future.”
The President said the proposed institution was part of measures to enhance the contribution of MSMEs to the country’s economic growth and development.
According to him, the impending DFI would provide long-term finance spanning up to 15 years for relevant entrepreneurs and industrialists, especially people involved in tree crop production.
Jonathan also disclosed plans by the Federal Government to restructure existing DFIs for better performance and improved access to finance by MSMEs.
He said: “MSMEs are recognised all over the world as engine of growth in any development oriented economy.
“Besides their inherent labour intensive production processes, they also provide a viable platform for job creation globally.
“All over the developed world, the contributions of MSMEs to Gross Domestic Product average about 47 per cent.
“This shows clearly how important MSMEs are to us.
“As reported by SMEDAN (Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria), there are about 17.3 million SMEs in Nigeria.
“However, this is quite small compared to countries like Indonesia that is slightly more than us in terms of population, but they have about 40 million.
“So, we must also get there and even go beyond.”
The President emphasised that a vibrant MSME sub-sector was indispensable for achieving sustainable transformation of the Nigerian economy.
He said as Africa’s largest economy with excellent prospects of becoming one of the world’s 20 largest economies by 2020, the challenges confronting MSMEs in the country must be addressed frontally.
Jonathan said: “The challenges called for more concrete and concerted measures to enhance and expand the activities of MSMEs in our country.
“The enormity of the task ahead demands immediate and dedicated action.
“That is why I am kick-starting today the disbursement of the N220 billion MSME Development Fund.
“The fund will be received by participating financial institutions and state governments for onward lending to MSMEs across the country.”
Jonathan described the conference as apt and appropriate in view of its focus on ways to resolve the problem of access to and cost of finance to MSMEs in Nigeria.
Besides limited access to finance, MSMEs in the country are also confronted by poor infrastructure, especially power, among other challenges.
Jonathan stated that the Federal Government was investing heavily on critical infrastructure such as electricity and road, among others to promote job creation and inclusive growth.
He said: “We are aware that inadequate infrastructure increases the cost of production by an estimated 30 per cent, making Nigerian goods quite under-competitive and we need to improve on that.
“The Federal Government believes that stable power supply is the bedrock of our industrial development and economic progress.
“It will not only reduce the cost of manufacturing and services significantly, it will also engender investments and create jobs.
“With these benefits in mind we are vigorously implementing the power sector reform programme.”
Jonathan noted that in spite of the initial challenges associated with the power reform programme, some of the successor companies to the unbundled Power Holding Company of Nigeria were currently doing well.
He lauded the CBN for collaborating with the Ministries of Power and Petroleum Resources as well as the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission to address the funding issues related to gas supply.

HOW UDUAGHAN WORK DAY AND NIGHT TO MAKE DELTANS HAPPY

His Excellency, the Comrade Governor of Delta State Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan is truly a governor sent by God to deliver us from the shackles of economic stagnation and under development. The Comrade Governor who compressed his developmental action plan into three point agenda of peace and security, infrastructural development and human capital development has worked indefatigably to ensure that he deliver on his three point agenda. The governor's commitment to the delivery of t...he dividend of democracy to the door step of the good people of Delta State has made him to work day and night to meet up with the demands of Deltans. It is a common knowledge that those working with the governor often complain that the governor works too much. They are at loss as to the source of the governors strength at his age when young men working with him find it difficult to cope. The reason is because Delta State is a peculiar state which has all the characteristics of a mini Nigeria. Like I always say, uneasy lies the head that wears the crown. In view of the foregoing, it is very imperative that we elect a serious minded person who has risen to the peak of his career through hard work, diligence and dedication to duty to take over from the governor. The unprecedented development that we are witnessing in the state today is a testimony of the governors commitment to finish strong by May 29th 2015 when we shall accompany him to Abuja to continue his good work in the house of senate. To God be the glory, Uduaghan's three point agenda is working. God bless the architect of modern Delta State.

HOW UDUAGHAN BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN THE RICH AND THE POOR BY UPGRADING PUBLIC SCHOOLS TO INTERNATIONAL STANDARD

Gone are those days when public primary and secondary schools were left for children of the poor in the society. I have had course to argue with some persons in the past that children of the rich will attend public schools in future if the right facilities are put in place but they doubted me that it is not possible. The notion has eaten deeply into the fabric of the society that it has become a status symbol for children of the rich to attend private school. However, that is... no longer the case because we have a visionary governor, His Excellency Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan who believes that our schools can be upgraded to international standard. The peoples governor assembled his team of expert together and they came up with the present design that has put public schools in the state on the same pedestal with schools in Europe and America. Consequent upon that, the rich and the poor now lobby to get admission for their children into public schools in the state. This is a clear departure from what was obtainable before the emergence of our Comrade Governor in 2007. Yes, it is true that when righteous men are in power, the people rejoice. To God be the glory, Uduaghan three point agenda is working, God bless the architect of modern Delta State.

UDUAGHAN INVENT NEW APPROACH TO COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

The transformation agenda of the Comrade Governor of Delta State has taken a new dimension with the introduction of the community driven development initiative of His Excellency Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan. This approach is one of the most effective approach to community development whereby the community identify their needs, prioritize them and vote for them in a democratic manner. The first three project is selected for execution based on the number of votes casted in the electio...n. An eight member Community Projected Management Committee (CPMC) is elected to execute the project based on the work plan and material abstract presented by the community to SEEFOR. The projects have moved to advanced stage in the three pilot LGA of Isoko South, Ughelli North and Ndokwa West LGAs. According to the Project Director Mrs. Alice Akpoghene, the project will be extended to other LGAs by 2015. UDUAGHAN PROVIDE PORTABLE WATER FOR INAM ABBE COMMUNITY IN NDOKWA WEST

The Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan's administration has provided portable water for Inam- Abbi community, a remote community in Ndokwa West LGA. The governor who is a medical doctor recognises the importance of water to life on earth. Water occupies about 70 % of the human body and plays critical role in reduction of temperature and metabolic activities in human body system. Other roles played by water include purification and removal of waste and toxic materials from the system. Dr. ...Emmanuel Uduaghan recognizes that consumption of contaminated water by people living in rural areas will not only cause epidemic but it will also subject the already over stretched medical facilities in the state to excessive pressure combined with the influx of people from neighbouring Anambra and Edo State to take advantage of our free medical care particularly for pregnant women and children below the age of 5. It is in the light of the foregoing and in furtherance of health care agenda of the Comrade Governor of Delta State that he has provided this efficient solar water system for Inam Abbi community in Ndokwa West LGA of Delta State. To God be the glory, Uduaghan three point agenda is working.

DBO: HOW UDUAGHAN STEPS INTO IMMORTALITY IN THE TOURISM SECTOR OF THE STATE

DBO: HOW UDUAGHAN STEPS INTO IMMORTALITY IN THE TOURISM SECTOR OF THE STATE
There is no doubt that Delta State has become one of the preferred tourism destination in the country. Each week, one conference or the other is taking place in the state capital. Professional bodies from all over the country easily turn to the state for their meetings, just as producers and artistes from all over Africa now troop to Asaba every week to produce movies. As part of the drive to diversi...fy the state economy, the Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan led administration is building the Delta Leisure Resort, the biggest of its kind in West Africa, at Oleri in Udu Local Government Area of the state. The park will be sitting on 250 acres of land and it will have a five star hotel, a three star hotel and a mini gulf course, shopping areas, cinemas, casinos and conference facilities.
The government is also developing another facility at Ogwachukwu that will have a game reserve. That too is on a 250 acres of land and it will contain all major animals in the world. This is in addition to the beautification of all major cities in the state to boost the state tourism potentials. Uduaghan's legacy is a legacy of prosperity that Deltans will live to remember. To God be the glory, Uduaghan three point agenda is working, God bless the architect of modern Delta State.

I Have a Right to Contest For Senate, UDUAGHAN

Asaba -Jan. 9, 2014 by Comrade Sanco Ovie
His Excellency, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State has debunked the report in a section of the media that he is planning to defect to APC. The governor made this known at a press briefing held at the unity hall of government house Asaba Delta State. The Comrade Governor of Delta State wondered why any body should insinuate that he has a plan to defect to APC, adding that he has contested several elections in the state as a governor and when his election was nullified. While giving a testimony of how God has been faithful to him, the comrade governor noted that his name was removed from the PDP ward list in 2007 under the leadership of the then PDP chairman Chief Amadu Ali while he was contesting for the governorship position but that did not make him to leave the party. According to him, he fought his way through the party to emerge the governor of Delta State.
In his words, " I am the governor that has contested the highest number of election within a very short time in Nigeria and I have always emerge victorious. I contested two elections within five months. In the history of Delta State, the PDP has never been so united the way we are today. All members of the National Assembly from Delta State are in PDP. Almost all members of the state house of assembly are in PDP except two members who have also indicated interest to come to PDP. in a couple of days from now, they will join the PDP . Is it now that the party is very stable under my leadership that I will leave the party?" Mean while the comrade governor has attributed the propaganda to a PDP member in the state who was recently appointed to work with the national chairman of the PDP. He noted that such persons are enemies within who want to destroy the party. He spoke about the unwritten agreement among the ethnic nationalities in Delta South senatorial district, adding that it is the turn of the Itsekiri Ethnic nationality to produce the next senator in Delta South. The governor asserted that as an Itsekiri man, he is very qualify to vie for the senatorial position. According to him " I contested two elections within five months and I won, is it a senatorial election that will be held in one year time that I should bother myself about?" The governor added.
Speaking in the same vein , the Comrade Governor stated that the state government will place more emphasis on the completion of ongoing projects this year and less emphasis on the execution of new projects. This , the governor said will enable him to finish strong. He also said that the Delta Beyond Oil initiative will receive a major boost this year particularly in the area of agriculture and sustainable development. In addition, the governor informed the people that the waste management plant along Igbuzor road will be completed any time from now to enable the government achieve its waste to wealth policy which will create more jobs for DELTANS .
Moreover, our most dynamic governor , Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has directed the state civil service commission to refund monies paid by unemployed youths to obtain application forms. The governor who was visibly angry when he was told that the state civil service commission is demanding N 1000 as processing fees from unemployed youths in the state to fill limited vacancy in the civil service stated that the schedule officers in charge of the recruitment should put the cost of processing applications in writing and forward same to the PS or commissioner for approval instead of collecting money from unemployed youths.
In a related development, the sport machine of govt. house protocol unit and government house foot ball team had an encounter today at squash club, govt. house Asaba. The football encounter which was eventually won by the sport machine of protocol after a penalty shoot out was witnessed by the peoples governor Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, Deputy governor, Prof. Amos Otuama , Hon. Leo Ogor and members of the state executive council.
To God be the glory, Uduaghan three point agenda is working, God bless the architect of modern Delta state.
