It has been observed that a lot of people who crave for development in Asaba have deliberately turn their eyes away from the massive underground drainage construction by the Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan led administration in Asaba metropolis . This is often observed whenever they complain about development in Asaba and their attention is drawn to the underground drainage construction, they pretend as if it is not part of development. It has become imperative to inform the general public that Asaba underground drainage project is not only 90% completed but it has gulped a substantial amount of money from the state government.
It is important to note that the peculiar challenges of erosion which is orchestrated by the topography of the area has made it imperative for the government to embark on the Asaba under ground drainage project along side other developmental projects.
While I will agree with critics of this government that the problem of erosion and run off is not peculiar to only Asaba, I want to quickly point out here that the velocity of run -off in Asaba is higher than any other area in Delta State owing to variation in elevation and the steepness of its angle of inclination. It is necessary to point out here that the rate at which water percolate into subsurface formation or aquifer is inversely proportional to the elevation of the area. Also the mechanical properties of the soil in Asaba also hinders the rate of percolation making Asaba environment very susceptible to excess run -off and flooding.
It is in the light of the foregoing that Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan led administration invested heavily on the construction of Underground drainage in Asaba which is 90% completed. The underground drainage has been constructed in all major roads in Asaba which include : Nnebisi Road, Awain Road, Okpanam Road, Old Awain Road, DLA Road, DBS road , Summith Road and a lot of other roads too numerous to mention. This is apart from the massive and unprecedented road construction going on in all parts of Asaba including the fly over project at interbua round about.
Successive government have come and gone without making any remarkable change in these areas but Uduaghan led administration took the bull by the horn and today we are witnessing the changes we never had after decades of successive military administration.
To God be the glory Uduaghan three point agenda is working, God bless the architect of modern Delta State.
