LEGISREPORTS NG – In a bid to ensure that the north returns to power in 2015, the Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has told the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, that it will frustrate all attempts by the party to return President Goodluck Jonathan in the next general elections.
The position of the north was made known through the NEF during the stakeholders meeting of Arewa Research Development Project (ARDP) in Kaduna.
Spokesperson of the forum, Professor Ango Abdullahi, said the north will use its voting population to return political power to the region during the 2015 general elections.
“What we want in 2015 is a free, fair and transparent election so that we can use our voting power to return political power to the North. We are working hard to actualise this by putting the North together,” he said.
According to the spokesperson of the NEF, the forum had come to a resolution to work with the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Northern Union (NU) and the Middle Belt Forum to ensure the realization of the north’s agenda.
“Sentiments were introduced into the North to divide what is known as united North. Our unity is being assaulted in so many directions, but we thank God we are forming a formidable front. We have agreed that we are going to talk with one voice,” he said.
In attendance also was retired General John Sagaya who said, “We (north) will not put our eggs in one basket in 2015, because power must return to the North. You must have power in your hands to be able to dictate the pace of development and address challenges in your area.”
